One might think that these large trees would have a tremendous root system reaching down hundreds of feet into the planet. They actually have a very shallow system of roots, but the roots all intertwine, and so are locked to each other. When storms come or the winds blow, the redwoods support and protect each other. Sit with your spine straight as you take a few deep breaths. Exhale tension and inhale peace. Now, imagine, sense, and perceive in whatever way comes to you a strong root coming down from your spineinto the earth.
Feel this root traveling down, down, down…even further down into the earth. Feel how strongly connected you are to the planet you live on. Just like a tree, you are rooted to the earth. Imagine your friends’ roots are down there too. Consciously feel how easy it is for your roots to intertwine. We are all connected. We are family.
